The French Room

The French Room

The French Room is on the second floor of the house. We designed the room to evoke memories of the French countryside: it is reminiscent of rooms in the inns that dot the small towns throughout the provinces.

Our French Room is decorated with a blue and white colour scheme. And this room has a large, wrought-iron heirloom bed. And if you leave the curtains just so, you'll be gently awakened by the morning sunlight coming in through the French doors.

Desk and Work Area

To take advantage of the quiet of this spacious room, we picked out an antique marble-topped French writing desk, which provides and ideal place for reading, writing letters or working; many of our business travelers appreciated this convenient place to set up their laptop and take advantage of our wireless Internet access.

Bath and Shower

The French Room's bath is also done in blue and white to complement the rest of the room. The shower is tiled in cerulean blue; it has an unusual arched entrance that is reminiscent of the old-world craftsmanship that is common in European inns.

It was a joy to decorate the The French Room; we were able to find numerous accents, turn-of-the-century drawings and artwork. The French Provincial dresser provides plenty of storage. As with all our rooms, we made sure there was a flat-panel television with cable and a DVD player; our movie library is just down the hall in a bookcase on the second-floor landing.

A wonderful recent addition to the home has provided the French Room with a private, second-story deck just outside a pair of new French doors.

The New French Room Deck

This deck is at the back of the house so it is very quiet; it is totally covered and even has overhead fans and lights for those warm afternoons or pleasant evenings. The deck has a wonderful view of the East Garden, and the sound of the garden's waterfall can easily lull one to doze in the comfortable, French-inspired, cushioned wicker furniture.

The French Room turned out to be one of our most popular rooms; it was particularly well-liked by our many business travelers. As we move into the main home, we have decided to leave the room just as it is, and use it to accommodate family and friends when they come to visit.
