Family Pictures from 1967

As I work backward through the various pictures that I got from my Dad, I will be less and less sure about when they were taken, unless my Dad happened to write a date on the pictures. I will continue to do what I can to pin them down, within the year, but my guesses won't be perfect. It also true that as we move backward I may not know or remember some of the people or locations in the photos, but again I will do my best to identify them.

As this year begins, I am in my Junior year at Myers Park High School. My sister, who graduated from Coker Colleg last year, has taken a job at Carolina Biological Supply up in Burlington (NC).

April: My Dad and Mom Visit Atlanta

One set of pictures this year was labeled by my Dad as having been taken in April of this year when my parents visited my Uncle Ralph and Aunt Jane in Atlanta. Also visiting at the same time were my Aunt Marguerite from Muskegon, and my Uncle Bud from Detroit (my father's siblings). My Aunt Marguerite is widowed for a number of years, and my Aunt Vy (Bud's wife) also died a few years ago.

Some of the other pictures had an odd reddish tone, but I will include them here anyway.

My Sister and Her Horse

Of course, one of the first things my sister did when she moved out on her own to Burlington was to acquire a horse, and I have a couple of pictures of it. She named the foal Sur Affy (it was an Arabian, which my sister favors), and she kept it at some stables in Whitsett, NC, not far from where she was living.

Neither picture was dated, so my nearest estimation only gets us to sometime this year.

My 21st Birthday

Well, these pictures were dated, and I have come home from my senior year at Davidson to have a bit of a birthday celebration at home in Charlotte. My sister came down from Burlington, and my Dad recorded the event for posterity.

Thanksgiving

This was one of those years where my birthday (November 23rd) falls on Thanksgiving, which is really why I was home from Davidson to celebrate it. My Mom did the usual turkey, and we had a couple of guests with us for dinner, but we also went down to South Morehead Street to see part of Charlotte's Thanksgiving Day parade. I suspect that my Dad didn't go with me (and perhaps Judy) to see the parade, but that he loaned me his Polaroid camera to take a few pictures. Here are those pictures of this year's parade:

Judy's Horse

As I mentioned in an above section, my sister has acquired a horse of her own, and during this year my Dad apparently took a number of pictures of her with it at the stables in Whitsett where she keeps it.

Rather than put all these images inline, I've decided to put them in a slideshow, which will make it easier for you to have a look at them.

To view the slideshow, just click on the image at left and I will open the slideshow in a new window. In the slideshow, you can use the little arrows in the lower corners of each image to move from one to the next, and the index numbers in the upper left of each image will tell you where you are in the series. When you are finished looking at the pictures, just close the popup window.

Unknown

The further back I move in these pictures, the less I will know about many of them.

The picture at left is a good example. It shows a couple, of course, in front of what is presumably their house. I don't recognize the couple, and the picture my Dad left is not annotated.

The only clue I have is that the picture was in the same album as the pictures taken when my parents visited my Uncles and Aunt in Atlanta. This led me to suspect that the couple might be related to that visit.

So, knowing that my Uncle's house was at 4780 Huntley Drive, I first tried to located a house with the number 4380 somewhere near my Uncle's house. Google Maps allows that kind of search, so I did that. But this didn't yield any obvious matches. There were some buildings and houses in the general area of Atlanta where my Uncle lives, but looking at these addresses in Google Maps street view I couldn't find a house that looked like the one in the picture.

Now, it is entirely possible that I have this picture in the wrong year, and I will continue to see if it might be related to some other picture in some other year, but for now all I can do is include it here. I know it is extremely unlikely, but someone may run across it in this album and contact me with some identifying information.
