Although this trip was for business, I did take a number of non-business photographs and movies while I was here in Chattanooga and also on the way home, so I have created this page for them.
Driving Into Chattanooga
On my second day here, I decided to take some movies as I drove from my hotel east of downtown up and over Missionary Ridge and into the city. Other than the narrative on the movies themselves, there is not much more I can say about them. I have put an aerial view of my route into town over at the left, and have marked the approximate positions where the four movies from this morning were taken. Also, I marked the location of Market Street (the route to TVA, my client this week) at the upper left on the aerial view.
To watch the movies, just use the players below:
Driving Out of Chattanooga
Continuing the series of movies from my trip into the city this morning, I have also taken some movies as I drove back to my hotel from TVA. Again, the narrative on the movies will explain them adequately. I have put an aerial view of my route out of town over at the left, and have marked the approximate positions where the three movies from this afternoon were taken.
To watch the movies, just use the players below:
"Pardon Me, Is This the Chattanooga Choo Choo?"
There were two "sights" that I saw while I was here in Chattanooga. The first was TVA itself, and most particularly, its master control room. Unfortunately, the master control room is one of those places where photography is not permitted, and I suppose I can understand that. Suffice it to say that I have never been in a room with more wall-sized displays and more information being displayed on them before. Quite spectacular.
The other "sight" was the downtown Holiday Inn. You might not consider a Holiday Inn to be something you would go out of your way to see, but the hotel is actually the converted Chattanooga railway station- the station from which the famous "Chattanooga Choo Choo" train originated. There is an entire railroad museum outside in the back (as you can see on the aerial view at left), and I was sorry that I did not have time during the day to visit it. I did take a good picture of
the hotel lobby,
all decorated for Christmas. It was really beautifully done.
I also made a movie that begins at the large Christmas tree in the lobby and then pans a complete 360 degrees around to arrive back at the Christmas tree. This movie will show you exactly what the entire lobby looked like, and I hope you will watch that movie with the player at right.
The Trip Home: Connecting Through Atlanta
Since I had my camera with me, I took a few movies as I was connecting through Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport for my flight home to Dallas. When the flight from Chattanooga landed, I had to change terminals, so I used the underground train to get from my arrival terminal to my departure one. You can use the player at left to come along on the train by watching the movie I made.
When I got to my gate, I found that the flight was delayed, and everyone was just standing around waiting for our aircraft to arrive. While I was waiting, I made a movie of the activity around the gate, and you can watch it with the player at right.
Soon, our aircraft arrived, and I took one more movie here at the gate- one of the passengers deplaning. Not an exciting movie, but you can use the player at left to watch it.
