Lunch with Brent Whitley

Today is our last day here; we have to fly home late this afternoon. We've taken the opportunity of Dr. Brent Whitley's being off from the hospital today to have him come over for lunch, so we can return the favor of dinner earlier in the week.

Brent and his motorcycle (one of them, anyway) arrived about eleven. We had some coffee and then did our usual walk down Las Olas to the beginning of the Riverwalk, and then along the Riverwalk to the Andrews Street Bridge. We climbed the stairs on the north side of the bridge, walked across the pedestrian walkway, and then walked down the ramps on the south side, where Fred got a picture of Brent and myself with the New River and River House in the background. Then we walked the four blocks to Shirttail Charlie's.

We got a table on the dock portion of the restaurant, so we could watch the boats going by (and you can watch them with us using the movie player at left).

While we were having lunch Brent was telling us of his latest motorcycle trips and talking about the possibility of being in Dallas next year when he goes to Arkansas for a visit with friends. I captured some of the conversation in a movie that you can watch with the player at right.

When we were done, we hopped on the Shirttail Charlie's shuttleboat (watch the movie at left), which then took us across the river to Old Fort Lauderdale. While we were on the shuttle, we got a great view down the New River.

We just strolled pretty casually back through the crowds of people out on this Sunday, past Riverfront Center and on towards the condo, Brent stopped for a "tropical sling" while Fred took a picture of the river traffic by the 3rd Ave. Bridge.

We spent some time back at the condo until Brent had to get to work and we had to get ready for our flight home.
