A Visit to Ruckman Haus in San Antonio

Getting to the Ruckman's House in San Antonio

You have probably seen an album page where we visit San Antonio, but in case you haven't, I want to show you the route to San Antonio from Dallas and where Prudence and Ron and Guy are located.

On the left-hand map below, you can see the normal route from Dallas down to San Antonio. Not much explanation is necessary; sometimes we take the bypass around Austin, but most times we don't, and the trip to the San Pedro exit in San Antonio is usually four hours plus.

We head north on San Pedro Avenue a couple of miles and then either hang a left on Ashby and a right on Breeden or just a left on French to get to the Ruckmans' house on the northeast corner of Breeden and French.

In case you have not seen them, I have put below first an aerial view of the Ruckmans' house (it is the house on the corner and the garage/apartment building north of it where Guy lives) and a front view of the house (taken in 2010).

Our Visit With Prudence, Nancy, Ron, Karl, and Guy

We have made so many trips to San Antonio since Prudence and Ron first moved here in 2000 to open their bed and breakfast that we have photographed just about everything in sight.

We do all the normal things when we are here visiting, although, as is always the case, Prudence and Ron (and Nancy and Karl) are so very generous to us that it often seems that the very small amount I do to help Prudence with the website for her art gallery pales in comparison. We always come away from our visits with deep gratitude to all four of them for sharing their home and their activities with us.

We only took three pictures on this particular trip. I took the first two (at left) of two works by Sheila Swanson that were hanging in Prudence's gallery. I wanted to take these pictures to show our friends Al and Kathy Hirschler back in Dallas. They are avid birders, and I thought they might possibly be interested in acquiring, if not these works, then other bird-subject paintings by Swanson.

Fred took the picture at right on one of the days when Prudence drove to the gallery and took Jax with her. I thought it was a nice portrait of the two of us.

I enjoy spending time with Prudence at her gallery, helping her where I can with anything computer-related. We enjoy attending the Friday Wine Down at the gallery, visiting Karl and Nancy out in the burbs, and just generally hanging out will all four of them- as wonderful a set of folks as you could wish for.

This was also the first trip of any length I've taken in my new car, and it performed beautifully. I particularly like the mileage it gets and all the safety features it has, and having navigation and a large infotainment screen are great as well (although I tend to use the navigation not to figure out the route from A to B, but rather to confirm that my chosen route is the best one, as I usually know, before I start the car, just how I am going to get where I am going).
