My Mom Visits Me in Chicago

All summer I'd been talking to my Mom about coming up to Chicago from Charlotte to visit with me. She of course had not been here since she and my Dad came through here on their driving trip in August, 1972. I got her enthused about coming up, so I made her a reservation and got her a ticket, and she came up for the weekend.

When she and my Dad first came through here, I was living on Aldine Street, but now I am in The Parkview, the highrise on LaSalle Street at North Avenue. So my balcony was a good place to get the two pictures that I took while my Mom was here:

The two pictures I took of my Mom were in the morning, so the sun was behind her. My balcony is on the south side of the tower (I am on the 36th floor) and this view looks east over the south end of Lincoln Park and across Lake Shore Drive to Lake Michigan.

Here, we are looking southeast. In the nearground are Sandburg Village and the brownstones of the north side backed by the highrises along Lake Shore Drive. Prominent in the picture is the John Hancock Center, Chicago's second-tallest building

During her visit, I had a gathering of my friends so they could meet my Mom, and we drove out to Glenview to spend some time with Bill Stelle, son of my Dad's sister, and so my cousin and my Mom's nephew. We went out to eat a couple of times, and I took my Mom down to Michigan Avenue so she could do some shopping. It was a nice, low-key visit, and it was nice to have my mom here for a while.
