Breakfast
On Monday morning, we all slept a bit late, but by ten-thirty or so were ready to head out and get a bite of breakfast. Guy was curious whether there was a Starbucks, so we took him up on Las Olas to the closest one we knew of. Following the same route we took yesterday (and the same route we take five or six times every time we visit down here), we went up to Las Olas and headed west towards downtown. Of course, I just had to make a movie as we walked along Las Olas, and you can watch it with the player at left.
In the block past the now closed Hyde Park Market, there is a Starbucks coffee shop in one of the office buildings along Las Olas, and that's where we stopped. Fred and Guy got some coffee and pastry and
sat out front
eating and drinking. Across the street there is another office building that has a very nice fountain in front- one that we've stopped at before. So when Guy and Fred were done, we headed across the street to look at it. There, we traded off taking a couple of pictures in front of the fountain- one of
Guy and myself
and one of
Fred and I.
We walked slowly back to the condo, looking in some of the shops and stuff. When we returned, we decided to head over to Sebastian Beach (the nominally gay beach) for a while.
At the Sebastian Street Beach
Going over to Sebastian Street Beach is a common activity for Fred and I; not only is it a convenient beach with parking nearby if we happen to drive, but it also has the attraction of being predominately gay. So it is a good place to read or play backgammon while people-watching. After breakfast, we took Guy over there and we spent a couple of hours either just sitting on the beach blankets or walking up and down the beach or walking along A1A.
While we were at the beach, I took a couple of movies, and you can watch those movies with the players below:
A Late Lunch at Shirttail Charlie's
When we got back from the beach, we changed and walked over to Shirttail Charlie's. We could have driven, but walking around Fort Lauderdale, particularly when it is pleasantly cool or just warm, is a pleasure. We got there about three and found a
table on the dock.
We ordered, and while we were waiting for our order to arrive, I took a movie of us at Shirttail Charlie's and the area of the New River around the restaurant. You can watch that movie with the player at left.
After a short while our food arrived, Fred hauled out his camera to make a movie of Guy and myself (which you can watch with the player at right) and I got a picture of
Guy ready to dig in.
After our lunch, we walked back across the Andrews Street Bridge to the downtown side of the river. From the bridge, Fred got a good shot of
the railroad bridge
and one of the new
River House Condominium
under construction.
I'm not sure what we did after that, but I am sure it involved frozen drinks and dinner.
