Lunch With Barbara Reynolds

Today, Monday, we planned to visit with our friend Barbara Reynolds up at her house in McKinney. We should see more of her, and we would, save for the fact that she is so far away. She has some issues that have kept her from going to the Symphony much lately, so we try to see her at her house when we can. Since Fred was heading home today anyway, we caravaned up to her house for lunch, so that afterwards Fred would be halfway home already.

When we arrived, Barbara introduced us to a friend of hers who was over helping her around the house, and we were chatting for a while when someone happened to open the kitchen door just in time to allow a beautiful cardinal to fly into the house. It was exciting trying to grab the frantic bird to get it back outside, but we finally did. We set it on the grass in the backyard, but it was dazed and confused and didn't move or fly away. Barbara's friend, Joy, picked it back up intending to put it in a safer place, and at that point Fred took the picture at left as well as another one of Joy holding the cardinal.

Concerned for its safety should a predator wander by, Joy put it up in one of the trees in the backyard, where it stayed for quite some time, until later when we noticed that it was gone. We hope that it regained its senses after its trauma, and that it will think twice next time before flying into a structure.

About noon, we drove Barbara to a new nearby development for lunch.

Adriatica Village

A little north of Barbara, in the southeast corner of the intersection between Stonebridge Drive and Virginia Parkway sits a new residential/retail development called Adriatica Village. We have passed by it before, and it is still under construction; this is the first time we actually drove into it. As you can see from the relatively recent aerial view at right, the development is far from complete.

From their website, I took the following:

"Imagine yourself the cobblestone streets of a quaint European village. From the architecture of the buildings and landmark Bell Tower to the secluded island chapel and unique shops and flats, Adriatica embodies that very spirit. The charming village atmosphere, serene residential settings, small business retail districts, and multiple recreational areas all comes together to form a balanced way of life, enhancing our living experience."

Barbara knew that there was at least one restaurant open already, a place called "Harry's on the Harbor". That's an artificial harbor, of course, on an artificial lake. We parked in the large parking garage and walked across the driveway to have a pleasant lunch in the restaurant that indeed has nice views out across the still-developing community and its lake.

As you can see in the aerial view, out front and just to the left of Harry's there is an Italianate tower and fountain, and so we went over to have a look at it and take a few pictures. A couple of them are at right.

We also took a few other candid shots around the still-under-construction complex, and there are clickable thumbnails for some of these below:

We enjoyed having lunch with Barbara, and visiting with her at her house. We don't get up there as often as we should!
