Our Winter Trip to Florida
We left Guy on Tuesday to head on down to Florida where we would stay until February 3rd.
Murrell's Inlet to Fort Lauderdale
This will actually be the first time Fred and I have driven from Murrell's Inlet to Fort Lauderdale, although some years ago we drove from her to Savannah after visiting my sister in Elon.
Getting down to I-95 required continuing south on US 17 all the way through Charleston and out to the Interstate.
And then it was a simple matter of driving down I-95 around Savannah and through Jacksonville and then down the familiar stretch from there to Fort Lauderdale and the condo. We arrived in time to have our ritual frozen drink and turkey burger at The Floridian.
Zack in the Condo
As has begun to be true, unless we do something different on one of our trips to Florida, or there is some interesting event that occurs, we really don't take that many pictures down here anymore. Of course, having Zack along qualifies as something new and interesting, so we commemorated his second trip down here with quite a few snapshots.
Zack does like to play a great deal when we are here, and in the mornings when we are sitting at the computers, he is usually on the table with us or sitting on the window ledge. And when either of us is sitting on the sofa, he is usually right there. Below are clickable thumbnails for some pictures that illustrate:
One morning I happened to meet up with the lady who actually walks her cat, and she and I chatted about what that involved. As a result, Fred and I stopped by the Pet Superstore to buy a small dog collar so see if we could get Zack used to it.
We weren't going to take him out this time, but just let him get acclimatized to the collar and leash. As it turned out, he didn't mind the collar at all after the first few minutes, and each day we put the collar on him for a while while he played around the condo. After a bit, it didn't seem that he noticed it at all. While Zack played, Fred took a few pictures of him, and there are clickable thumbnails below for some of them:
A New Beach Artwork
While we were biking along the beach a few days ago on our way to throw the frisbee in Holiday Park, we discovered that there was a new "art" installation at the beach- right at the intersection of Las Olas and A1A. We saw that it was constructed of discarded water bottles, and was not only an artwork but a statement about recycling. We overheard someone say that it was lit up at night, so one evening we came over to have a look.
It was pretty neat at night, lit up in the same colors as are used in the color strip along the seawall. There were lots of folks around all trying to take pictures, so it was impossible to get the artwork vacant long enough to get a really good picture. But I have put clickable thumbnails below for a collection of some of the pictures Fred took:

I also made a movie of the sculpture that night so that you can see the effect of the changing colors. You can watch that movie with the player at right.
That was about it for anything new and interesting on this particular trip down here. We did our usual dinners and movies with Ron and Jay, we threw the frisbee, I worked on my photo album and we just enjoyed the cool Fort Lauderdale winter weather before heading home on February 3rd.
