Driving to Chattanooga, TN

Today we have started out on our trip that will take us to some attractions and hikes in Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina and which will include a stop at my sister's house in Elon, NC, for Thanksgiving.

Today will be a day of driving, as we take Fred's RAV4 out on the road to Chattanooga. One of the reasons that we are taking Fred's vehicle this time is that it is his turn, but the other is that my own car was totalled two weeks ago and I have not yet gotten another. But that is a when-we-get-back task.

We left the house around nine-thirty and will be following a familiar route from Dallas to Shreveport. Once there, we headed off on a route that Fred and I have also taken a few times, continuing east on I-20 to Jackson, MS.

We have gone to Florida that way a couple of times, but Fred and I have only gone past Jackson on I-20 only one other time- a couple of years ago when we took another trip through Georgia and North Carolina to do some hiking and visit my sister. Our route continued past Birmingham, AL, where we went off an an entirely new direction. We took I-59 northeast from Birmingham towards Chattanooga, TN.

Our first stop tomorrow is going to be at a Chattanooga-area attraction called Ruby Falls. Fred has been there once before, but I have never seen it.

After we passed by Birmingham, I got on the phone and found a Super 8 Hotel that was close to Ruby Falls, and so we got off the expressway a bit early- at Cummings Highway. There, we found the hotel and settled in for the night.
