A Sea Day

Cruising Towards Cabo San Lucas

The trip to Cabo San Lucas from Zihuatanejo will take more than a day, to today is a sea day. We left Zihuatanejo last evening about six, and we aren't due to dock in Cabo San Lucas until six or seven tomorrow morning. So today is our own aboard the Oosterdam.

I find sea days quite relaxing. Today was no exception. We had a leisurely breakfast with the guys, and then had a bridge session until about one o'clock. We had some lunch together, and then I believe we had a RummiKub game with Steve and Gary. It was the Fitness Center in the late afternoon, as usual. The rest of the time we just wandered around the ship.

Sea and Clouds

On these sea days, we don't take many pictures. We did earlier in the cruise when we were unfamiliar with the ship, but now that it has been home for over two weeks, there isn't a lot more to see. The only pictures I have for today are a selection of nice pictures that Fred took of the clouds and the sea.

If you would like to look at some of these cloud and sea pictures, most of which were taken in late afternoon, just click on the thumbnail images below:

Evening Activities

We did our Fitness Center thing after the sunset, and then Fred and I went to the show, which featured John D. Smitherman, who was billed as an "extremely diverse singer." (I actually think it's actually his repetoire that's 'diverse,' but I won't quibble.) He was just OK.

Here is the Daily Program blurb about Smitherman:

A New York Press reviewer said that "(Smitherman) is one of the most diverse singers I've ever heard!" He has performed over 100 different roles, including the title roles in Jekyll & Hyde and Phantom of the Opera.

Both Fred and I thought that he was easy enough to listen to, and we enjoyed the show. The stage lighting was pretty dark most of the time, so only Fred got a decent movie during the performance.

John D. Smitherman Performing "My Way"
At least Mr. Smitherman didn't mangle this song the way the Oosterdam singers mangled "Do Re Mi."

After the show, we joined the other guys for one of the formal nights in the Vista Dining Room. On the way to dinner, we came across the other guys, and Fred snapped a picture that included Bud, Greg, and the star of the Piano Bar- Randall Powell. (He's the one dressed as a rhinestone cowboy.) Have a look at that picture here.

Then it was on to the Vista Dining Room for one of the Formal Night dinners, during which I prevailed upon our waiter to take a picture of our group.

We stopped for some ice cream after walking the decks for a while, and then headed back to our stateroom. Tomorrow is our last stop before the end of the cruise- Cabo San Lucas.
