Our Summer Trip to Glacier National Park

 

 

Well, it's July again, and that usually means that Fred and I are embarking on a Summer trip. This time, we've planned to camp and hike in Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota. We have basically planned our whole route, although the route contains a number of alternatives that we can choose depending on conditions. We have done more prior research on the Internet than we have ever done, and we have quite a few ideas of places to see and hike and camp.

This will be a driving trip and, since we took my Hyundai on our last long trip, it is Fred's turn to supply the vehicle, and so we will be driving his RAV4 this year. We left from Fred's house in Van Alstyne on Saturday morning, July 1, heading north and west to our destination- a motel somewhere north of Denver, Colorado.

Our last stop was Vermillion, South Dakota on the evening of July 9th, and we returned to Van Alstyne from there on Sunday evening, July 10, after a really great trip- one of the best we have ever taken. Just about everything worked out perfectly, and we hope you enjoy looking at the pictures of it.

Wednesday, July 5, 2006 Waterfall hikes along the eastern part of the "Going to the Sun" road. Hiking in Many Glacier and supper at the Many Glacier Lodge. Camping again in St. Marys Campground.
Thursday, July 6, 2006 Hiking to three waterfalls at Two Medicine in Glacier NP. Exploring the Missouri River at Great Falls, Montana.
Friday, July 7, 2006 Hiking Hyalite Canyon above Bozeman. The drive east across Montana. Exploring Natural Bridge State Park in the Boulder River Valley. The drive to Sheridan, Wyoming.
Saturday, July 8, 2006 Exploring Devil's Tower, WY. The drive to our campsite in Custer State Park, SD. Visiting Mt. Rushmore.
