We left DFW early Saturday morning- on American, of course. The day was a good one for flying, and I took the opportunity to capture a set of movies of our take-off from Dallas. These movies are pretty self-explanatory, and so all I have done is to place below a player for and short description of each of the movies I took on our take-off and climbout. Feel free to watch as many of them as you wish:
(1) Fred and the inside of the American Airlines jet as we begin our take-off roll
(2) Lift off and climb out over the north end of DFW Airport; note the almost perfect shadow of the aircraft ahead of the wing as we climb out.
(3) Climbing to the north over Lake Grapevine and Grapevine Mills
(4) Climbing over Grapevine Mills heading towards Flower Mound
(5) Eastward now, over Lake Lewisville, and the marina where Grant first kept his boat
(6) Southeastward and passing over Plano, with views up US 75 towards Van Alstyne
(7) Crossing over US 75; views of the interchange between George Bush Turnpike and US 75
(8) Having turned more southeastward, we are passing over Lake Ray Hubbard
Our Landing in Fort Lauderdale
We arrived in the Fort Lauderdale area a little before one in the afternoon and, as I had done on take-off, I took the opportunity to film a series of movies of our approach to and landing in Fort Lauderdale These movies are again pretty self-explanatory, and so once again all I have done is to place below a player for and short description of each of the movies I took during our approach and landing. Watch as many of them as you wish:
(1) Below the clouds and following the Tamiami Trail eastward towards the Fort Lauderdale area
(2) The abrupt divide between the northern Everglades and the developed area of far western Fort Lauderdale
(3) Descending slowly over the western suburbs of Fort Lauderdale
(4) Crossing Florida's Turnpike and the near western suburbs of Fort Lauderdale
(5) We'll be landing to the west today, and so we are crossing just north of downtown Fort Lauderdale to head out over the ocean to make our turn
(6) Crossing the Intracoastal Waterway and the coast of Florida, heading out over the Atlantic to make our turn back to the west
(7) Heading back west and approaching the coastline just south of Everglades Inlet
(8) Crossing the coastline south of Everglades Inlet; good views of the Inlet, Lake Mabel and some of the docked cruise ships
(9) On final approach, crossing US-1, and landing at Fort Lauderdale International Airport
We picked up our rental car at one of the rental places off the airport, and we were at the condo by two in the afternoon.
