May 11-13: At My Sister's in Elon, NC

I wanted to head down to North Carolina to see Mom and Dad, and also make a stop at my sister's house in Elon, because I knew that with starting a new job and getting used to Chicago, I might not be able to get home for Christmas this year. So while I had some free time, I wanted to make use of it.

I have made this driving trip down to Charlotte twice since I've returned from Korea, so I pretty much know the way (and Interstate highways make it even easier). So I had no problem doing the trip in a single day, arriving in Charlotte late in the evening.

My Mom and Dad were fine, and although we talk on the phone and write letters, I brought them up to speed on what was going on with my new job in Chicago.

I just kind of hung out with them for a couple of days before driving up to my sister's house in Elon.

I want to show a bit about where my sister is, so here are a couple of maps.

Judy and Bob have a two-story townhouse on Hawthorne Lane in Burlington. To get there, it is first a simple drive up from Charlotte. One simply takes I-85 from Charlotte to the Burlington area. At Greensboro, I-85 becomes coterminus with I-40, and they both continue east towards Raleigh.

Then it is just a matter of getting off I-85 at Huffman Mill Road and working your way north and a bit east to get to the townhouse complex on Hawthorne Lane.

Judy and Bob are already talking about building a house on some land northwest of Elon, a few miles away, and I suspect that is going to happen fairly shortly.

Judy and Bob have two children- Ted is 3 and Jennifer ("Jeffie") is 2.

I always like visiting my sister and Bob (and the kids, of course). I spent the day here with the family; Bob works at his family's drug store, so he didn't get home until the afternoon. The pictures I came away with were of my sister, my niece, and my nephew.

Here are Ted (3) and Jennifer (2) down by the driveway up to the house.

This, of course, is Ted. He is pretty active, more than I was at his age, and it looks like he may also be fairly tall, as he is taller than I was when I was three.

As for the rest of the pictures of Ted, Jennifer, Judy, and their canine companions, I think I'll put them in a little slideshow, and that show is below. To go from one picture to the next, just use the little arrows in the lower corners of each slide. You can track your progress with the index numbers in the upper left. The slide show "wraps", so moving forward from the eleventh slide will bring you back to the beginning.

I ended up spending the night at my sister's before heading back to Indianapolis and a new chapter in my life.
